The latest trend in lounge bars and clubs is a combination of secrecy, mixology and a 1920s vibe. Speakeasys are the trend of the moment and are back with a vengeance. We’ve paired this trend with our style and brands that seem designed to relive that era.
Have you ever heard of speakeasies? They are the trendiest places of the moment and take inspiration from the American Prohibition period, of which they mirror the atmosphere of secrecy and exclusivity. These are real secret places, whose entrance is reserved for very few people and which offer their customers menus, atmosphere and rules taken from the old clandestine bars born between the twenties and thirties in the United States.
In 1920, American law banned the sale and consumption of alcohol throughout the United States. This marked the beginning of the era known as Prohibition, which saw the birth of numerous secret places that circumvented the law by selling alcohol clandestinely.
These were the first speakeasies in history, bars hidden in the back rooms of shops, butcher shops, barber shops and even inside private homes. The name, according to legend, comes from an episode that occurred in an illegal saloon in Pennsylvania in 1888, when the owner ordered her customers to lower their voices so as not to reveal her illegal activity, saying precisely “Speak easy, boys!”.
Obviously, since these were secret and illegal places, access was not open to everyone, on the contrary! There were few people (at least in theory) who knew about these places and to enter they needed a password, as well as the right acquaintances. In reality, secret bars soon became such a common phenomenon that they were known to many people. Just think that in 1920 in New York there were 32,000 speakeasies!
Secrecy and privacy are a gift that cannot be ignored, but also style. Veronica accompanied us on this journey.
She wears an Agape vest and On Stage trousers in grey. Both from the Made in Italy brand Nine in the Morning. The white cotton shirt by Knowledge Apparel Cotton makes the whole thing terribly prohibitive.
We love all of this and you can find it in store or HERE.
